NAVIGON launches Traffic Live service for MobileNavigator

updated 09:05 pm EST, Mon November 9, 2009

Utility works to shorten routes

NAVIGON has announced that its Traffic Live service is now available for users of the MobileNavigator iPhone app. The feature is designed to help users cut time from routes by avoiding congestion. Users can receive on-screen alerts showing icons for accidents, construction, or other obstructions. The interface also presents detailed information such as the severity of the accident or the speed of traffic flow.

The traffic information includes crowdsourced speed data from a large number of drivers, including other MobileNavigator users and commercial vehicles. As congestion is recognized, users can choose an alternative route and the software automatically recalculates the estimated time.

Coverage is initially provided just for the US, although Canada is expected to be added in the near future. The Traffic Live service is available as an in-app purchase from the latest v1.3 update offered in the App Store. The traffic add-on carries an introductory price of $25, while the MobileNavigator app can be purchased for $90.
