Epson PowerLite 450W, 460 projectors

Epson has introduced its latest line of ultra-short throw projectors, the PowerLite 450W and Epson PowerLite 460. Both projectors are designed for educational purposes and draw on 3LCD projection. Each device provides a microphone input that allows users to hook up a microphone to boost their voices over the integrated 10W speaker; it also has a built-in closed captioning decoder for presentations to the hard of hearing.

The PowerLite 450W is the highest-resolution of the two, with 2,500 lumens brightness but a widescreen 1280x800 resolution better tailored to newer notebooks. The PowerLite 460 is brighter at 3,000 lumens but stops at 1024x768.

Additionally, both projectors enable remote access either through a school's wired connection or 802.11a/b/g wireless, making it possible to teach several classrooms simultaneously from one area. The projectors can also pipe content directly from a Mac or PC over USB and recognize USB memory devices such as a thumb drive.

The projectors are scheduled for release in February of 2010 to supporting resellers, and are priced at $1,500 for the 450W and $1,700 for the 460.
