litl Easel netbook due soon

A new PC startup, litl, is known today to be readying an unusual netbook design with a rare customized operating system. An FCC filing for the Easel reveals a 12-inch system whose display can bend past 180 degrees and with a deliberately rounded, child-friendly look. However, it should also run a custom version of Linux with a "card" interface that lets users pick from blue cards for core apps and settings, black channel cards for news, weather and other widgets, and white cards for Firefox pages.

In keeping with the choice of OS and the simple focus, the Easel should have just 2GB of flash storage for permanent content and 1GB of RAM. Even so, the system should still have relatively high-end netbook features, such as a 1280x800 screen resolution, a 1.86GHz Atom Z540 and HDMI video output. A webcam and 802.11g Wi-Fi are carried over from most netbooks, but no room exists for Ethernet.

Launch information isn't revealed either by litl or by its FCC filing, though most such posts usually precede releases by no more than a few months. [via Engadget]
