updated 06:30 pm EDT, Tue October 27, 2009

New tools for scriptwriting

Final Draft has released an update to its self-titled scriptwriting software, which includes a range of new functions and features. Version 8 adds the ability to select and highlight text with a new toolbar button, while users can send content from the Index Card Summary directly to the script. The Mac edition also integrates with the Spotlight search function.

A scene navigator has been added, allowing users to view important details of a scene in a sortable floating pallet. An interface for property inspection can now be used to add scene titles and colors to track story lines, characters, or other elements. Other added features include pagination, page count management, and support for the XML file format.

Final Draft 8 can now be purchased for $250 for either a downloaded or boxed version. Upgrades from earlier versions are also available for $80.
