Apple software update enables Magic Mouse special features

updated 07:25 pm EDT, Tue October 27, 2009

Downloads available for Leopard and Snow Leopard

Apple on Tuesday released software updates that add Magic Mouse support to both Leopard and Snow Leopard operating systems. The downloads allow users to take advantage of the new Multi-Touch functionality featured in the new mouse. The top surface integrates sensors that detect gestures for controls such as scroll, swipe, click and double-click.

Both updates are available from Apple's Support page or through the Software Update utility in Mac OS X. The Leopard software requires v10.5.8 or higher, while the Snow Leopard update requires v10.6.1. [Leopard Download - 36.22MB] [Snow Leopard Download - 63.92MB]

I think you need one to get the update

I don't have one therefore there is no update. But they haven't shipped or at least aren't available yet to purchase separately as far as I know.

Won't install until 10.6.2 comes out

I imagine OSX 10.6.2 and the mouse should show-up in a day or two.

    Ordered & waiting

I ordered one when they were announced. It says I'll receive it between the 28th and the 3rd. So I'm guessing they're waiting for 10.6.2 to be released before they start shipping.

    Eh...the 3rd is less than a week.

    Sagemore Store

I called the Sagemore store (NJ) and they said they will had them in stock, but could not sell until Thursday or Friday (Oct 29 or 30). I played with one on an iMac. They are very nice. I will be getting two of them.
