Absoft Pro Fortran 11 uses 64-bit compilers

updated 01:00 pm EDT, Fri October 23, 2009

Further adds Snow Leopard support

Absoft has launched Pro Fortran 11 for the Mac. Version 11 includes both 32- and 64-bit compilers, allowing developers to design code for Mac, Windows and Linux using a single code source. Similarly present is support for OpenMP multi-core parallel programming standards when using Nehalem-era Xeon processors.

The update also adds Snow Leopard and Xcode 3.2 support, and fully implements TR 15581 in the Fortran 95 compiler. Improved are instruction scheduling algorithms and code generation, for Intel processors in newer Macs, and for auto-parallelization.

The recommended minimum for Pro Fortran 11 is Mac OS X 10.4.8 on an Intel Mac. Xcode 2.4 and 256MB of RAM are additionally required. Single licenses start at $300, though special multi-user and commercial or government licenses are available.
