Sony digital photo frame has built-in printer

Sony announced the price and release date for its DPP-F700 photo frame with built-in printer on Thursday. The device was introduced less than a month ago in Europe and includes a 7-inch screen with 800x480 resolution, 1GB of built-in memory and an integrated photo printer that can produce a 4- by 6-inch print at 300x300dpi resolution in 45 seconds. Users can edit images before printing, with options that include enlarging, reducing, cropping, adjusting brightness, contrast, hue and sharpness as well as including a date stamp or a border.

A Creative Print mode lets users print a photo calendar and choose from one of 30 templates. Users can also create a photo ID and a layout print with more than one image on a print. A screen capture button lets users print exactly what they see on the display.

Transfer of images is possible thanks to a USB input or one of the many supported memory card types, including Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, SD/SDHC, CF, and xD. Supported image formats include JPEG, TIFF and BMP. Photos can be played back as single, static images or as a slideshow with ten built-in transitions.

An auto orientation sensor will rotate images as needed, whether the frame is in horizontal or vertical orientation. A remote control is included.

Sony has revised the hinted-at price of the frame, as well as its ship date. Compared to the original $290 price tag and November release, the DPP-F700 will now only cost about $200 and ship to American audiences in January.
