Apple updates Final Cut Studio, Server Diagnostics utility

updated 08:20 pm EDT, Thu October 22, 2009

Maintenance release for video editing suite

Apple has released a Pro Applications Update for Final Cut Studio, along with a new Server Diagnostics utility. The Final Cut Studio download is primarily a maintenance update, with improvements to overall stability and compatibility. The revision includes Final Cut Pro 7.0.1, Motion 4.0.1, Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1, Color 1.5.1 and Compressor 3.5.1.

Server Diagnostics 3X106 is compatible with Snow Leopard Server on the Xserve and Mac mini devices produced early in 2009, along with the previous Xserve produced in early 2008. The utility helps troubleshoot issues involving boot ROM, Ethernet controllers, fans, hard drives, memory, processors, USB ports and video controllers, among others.

The Final Cut Studio download is contained in a 243MB package available from Apple's support page after entering the software serial number. Server Diagnostics is available to download directly from Apple. [Download - 20.2MB]

    So...

When are these people going to finally listen to Apple and convert this software over to Cocoa, so they can finally take advantage of 64-bit? Everyone's known for years that Carbon was a stop-gap technology and no one should be writing to it.

Although I can't imagine what benefit a video editing app would gain from 64-bit, I'm sure there would be something there.
