Adamo XPS to run ULV chip, use replaceable battery

Dell shows off Adamo XPS in more detail

Dell as part of a low-key press gathering today showed its Adamo XPS in greater detail. Although most details are still secret, company representative Alex Gruzen has revealed that the system will use one of Intel's more powerful ultra-low voltage processors and not an Atom chip, as in the Sony VAIO X. Its 0.4-inch thick shell is also designed for the battery to be replaced, unlike either the MacBook Air or Dell's own Adamo 13.

The hands-on with the Adamo XPS from Laptop also shows the notebook using one of Dell's first true "chiclet" keyboard designs. Despite the apparent thinness, the aluminum construction is described as "sturdy" and lighter than the four-pound original Adamo. A webcam is the only immediately visible hardware extra, but the PC is known to use a special heat-activated strip that unlocks the notebook's latch.

Dell's system is poised to be the consistently thinnest notebook ever when released and should achieve the feat through a unique hinge that puts many of the components in a section attached to the display itself. Opening the notebook uses that portion as a support for the system to put the notebook display and keyboard at a natural angle.

Someone please tell me I'm not the only person who noticed that the laptop's design is a total copy of a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. Black keyboard, all aluminum, same trackpad, etc.
