Extends Mac content to set-tops

Verizon has introduced a Mac version of Media Manager, its media extender software for FiOS TV subscribers. The program is meant exclusively for FiOS DVR set-tops, and lets users listen to iTunes music on a TV, including specified playlists. Images can meanwhile be shared out of iPhoto libraries, viewed by event and/or in slideshow form, the latter with music if assigned in advance.

The Mac app requires Mac OS X 10.4, along with iTunes 7, QuickTime 7 and iPhoto 6. Notably missing are some features of the Windows edition, including Internet video, automatic scanning of media folders and the ability to import files from flash drives or non-Apple phones and media players. Both programs are free downloads from Verizon's website.

So I've been a Verizon FiOS subscriber for some time and I had to learn about this from MacNN! It seems to me that Verizon only sends me mail about stuff that's going to cost me more money. They're not so good about telling me about features that I've already paid for or are free.

We saw a pop-up message on the TV concerning the release of the Mac version several days ago, but we had seen mention of the beta back in July on the Verizon.net site - which we actually use for remote DVR mangement.
We had signed up for the beta and were testing it out. It's extremely barebones compared to what the Windoze version sounds like. Right now the problem is that the release version crashes even more often than any of the betas and during the half hour it IS running, the MM on the DVR either drops the connection to the MAC server or simply flashes a code and does not play the selected song. I have logged feedback with Verizon about it but no reply yet. Oh, and the Send Feedback button in the VMM application lets you fill out a report but then will not send it - "can not connect to server at this time. try again later."
