Livescribe Pulse gets 2GB, 4GB models

Livescribe on Monday added two new capacities to its Pulse smartpen lineup. Customers can now opt for a 2GB or 4GB model, in addition to the original 1GB smartpen. The devices can also now be had in titanium and sport an ARM9 processor and the ability to save audio and handwritten notes through sync. The 4GB model can hold 400 hours of recorded audio or a combination of audio recording or even applications that will soon be available through a Livescribe Application Store.

Livescribe is also offering a special Pro-Pack bundle with the new pen, which includes a black 4GB Pulse smartpen, an A5-sized starter notebook, a premium leather carrying case, handwriting to text transcription software and a new Pro Charging Cradle that lets users recharge the pen from either a PC or an electrical outlet.

At the same time, Livescribe has added retailers which carry its products, including Best Buy, some Apple retail stores and the online Apple Store. Staples will get the devices in November. Availability at Target and Amazon will continue on.

Pulse smartpens require special microdot paper that allows the device to keep track of its stylus on a particular sheet. Audio is recorded by the pen itself, or by using a microphone embedded in the included headset. It supports both Macs and Windows PCs.

The 4GB Pulse smartpen has a retail price of $200 and the 2GB model is $170. The special bundle is initially available at for $250.
