Acer Liquid caught on video, new specs revealed

Specs and a video of the recently introduced Acer Liquid smartphone have been leaked, thanks to GPSandCo. The Android-powered device will be Acer's first with the Google-developed OS, and also its most powerful application, as the handset sports Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. The video reveals the Liquid will be available in black, red or white and that it sports a 5-megapixel camera.

Also confirmed is the presence of a miniUSB connector as opposed to microUSB, and that the touchscreen is capacitive. There is also an accelerometer. The interface has a widget display on the right side that shows favorite websites via thumbnails, which users can scroll through and access. There is also a dedicated shortcut to a user's multimedia library, as is a widget for quick access to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other social networks. The Donut (1.6) build of Android will be preloaded.

The 3.5-inch, 800x480 touchscreen is confirmed, as is a 3.5mm audio jack. There is otherwise quad-band GSM network support, and high-speed HSDPA 3G data connections. Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi and GPS with photo geotagging are all present. A microSDHC memory card slot will make up the majority of the storage space.

The Liquid will be available before the end of the year, probably in December. Price is estimated to be the equivalent of $600 before carrier subsidies.
