UK adds second official third-party iPhone retailer

updated 09:20 am EDT, Tue October 13, 2009

Phones 4u to support multiple carriers

UK retailer Phones 4u has announced a deal to begin selling the iPhone, both online and through its stores. Devices will be paired either with the original UK iPhone carrier, O2, or else Orange, which is slated to begin support later this year. Phones 4u has not mentioned a particular timeline for starting sales, or what special discounts it might offer, if any.

Left out of the current arrangement is Vodafone UK, which is only set to begin carrying the iPhone in early 2010. The late date could be responsible for a lack of mention in the Phones 4u announcement. The deal nevertheless adds a second third-party retailer to the UK, after Carphone Warehouse, which was also the first third-party iPhone vendor anywhere in the world.
