HP's Core i7-based dv8 notebook reaches UK first

updated 02:30 pm EDT, Tue October 13, 2009

HP Pavilion dv8 comes with dv6, dv7 updates

HP this afternoon held a rare UK-first debut for one of its notebooks. The Pavilion dv8 is now HP's largest non-HDX notebook and carries an 18.4-inch, 1080p display that lets it replace a desktop. A 1.6GHz Core i7 and a dedicated GeForce GT 230M also put the dv8's performance closer to that goal.

Just a single model is available but at 1,300 ($2,051) but comes with high-spec features, including 4GB of RAM in a single slot, dual 320GB hard drives, a Blu-ray combo drive and 802.11n Wi-Fi. HP ships the system to the UK on October 22nd, Windows 7's launch day, but hasn't yet mentioned a US release.

Along with the dv8, the 15.6-inch dv6 and 17.3-inch dv7 have also received new upgrade options and give the pick of either a Turion II Ultra or a Core i7 for the processor as well as newer dedicated NVIDIA video and DDR3 memory. These newer configurations are equally due on October 22nd but leave base prices alone at 450 ($710) for the dv6 and 600 ($946) for the dv7.
