QNAP releases faster two-bay NAS for the home

QNAP TS-210 gets faster CPU, new look

QNAP today upgraded one of its most mainstream network-attached storage servers by launching the two-bay TS-210. A major replacement for the TS-209, it has both a more home-friendly, sleeker look but also jumps from a 500MHz processor to 800MHz. The extra speed better handles intense network traffic, particularly RAID 1 mirroring, without bogging down.

Many of its software features are borrowed directly from the just-launched, four-bay TS-410. Owners can share media to any DLNA- or UPnP-aware device, including an iPhone or iPod touch with an appropriate app; it can also download files through BitTorrent, FTP or HTTP regardless of active computers on the network. Bonjour support automatically puts it on the network for those that recognize zeroconf technology, and it can use iSCSI for storage over Ethernet. The TS-210 only has one Ethernet jack versus the TS-410, however.

QNAP ships the TS-210 this month without pre-installed drives but hasn't readily provided a price for the NAS.
