Nikon D3 disappears ahead of likely D3s

Nikon D3 stock not being replenished, D3s likely

The Nikon D3 digital SLR camera is disappearing from virtual store shelves, and the story is likely true at electronics retailers as well. The non-existing or super-low inventory levels could only be attributed to the discontinuation of the model, as they are not being replenished. This could indicate that the camera will soon be replaced with a new model, widely expected to be the D3s.

Online photography retailer Adorama is out of stock of the D3, as is B&H, though the latter has been low in stock for some time now. Amazon is offering just one D3, albeit through a third party. The UK's Grays of Westminster sent out an e-mail advertising that the D3 is now on sale, down from the equivalent of $5,052 to $4,812.

The replacement for the D3, the D3s, is believed to begin shipping on October 15th. It's expected to shoot at 12 megapixels, but through an improved sensor and will also bring HD movie recording and possibly other features borrowed from the D300s. [via NikonRumors]
