Insight monitoring software now works with Mac

Faronics has released an update to its classroom management software for teachers, Insight 7.4. The software provides tools for monitoring a student’s computer, and allows instructors to control what applications can be opened, where students can go on the web, or to remotely access their systems. In the latest version support has been added for instructors to use the software from a Mac, along with additional internet controls for Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox.

The software also offers a list of all students currently being monitored, the ability to view and compare student attendance, and a function for either blanking out screens or locking out keyboard and mouse devices in order to prevent students from using the computer. Teachers can also instantly message all students on the network, or open a text-based chat session with individual students.

Insight 7.4 is compatible Mac OS X 10.4 or higher, but requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later for the teacher’s console; it is priced at $600 for an educational version or $1,200 for corporate.
