Sony VAIO X's pricing, Atom heart leaked

Ultraportable VAIO X to carry high price

Sony's VAIO X will ultimately be a larger but lighter version of the VAIO P if a pair of leaks (one, two) prove accurate. Although undecided on the choice of processor when it first teased the system, Sony is reported by Engadged as using a 2GHz Atom processor to help achieve its 1.5-pound claimed weight and slim profile in spite of the 11-inch frame. It would also have a solid-state drive of an unknown capacity.

A second tip, from a Canadian source, claims that the choice of processor will give it extra-long battery life, though only under certain conditions. The VAIO's stock battery would only give it 3.5 hours of runtime, but an extended capacity pack should draw that out to 14 hours. One of Sony's first multi-touch trackpads would also find its way into the X. The BGR contact understands that the system would cost $1,499 in local currency, or likely $1,400 US, and as such would nearly match the price of the highest-end VAIO P. Shipments would start next month with Windows 7 as standard.
