Sony launches VAIO CW
The last of Sony's three notebook updates Wednesday evening was the VAIO CW. It brings a 16:9 aspect ratio 14-inch display (versus 16:10 before) and is the first mid-range Sony notebook to carry Windows 7. In keeping with earlier VAIO C systems, the CW is style-centric and comes in glossy colors both on the outer shell and on the palm rest.
An entry system should start at $780, although Sony so far lists the least expensive system at $850 with a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive and a dedicated GeForce GT 230M providing faster 3D out of the box. Custom orders scale it up to as much as a 2.8GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, a 500GB disk and Blu-ray.
Of all Sony's evening launches, the CW arrives first and will be in shops at the end of October, days after Windows 7 is ready.
