Gateway unveils all-in-one PCs with multi-touch

Gateway One ZX series debuts

Gateway today preempted its rivals with one of the first fully multi-touch all-in-one desktop lines. The One ZX series' staple feature lets them both take advantage of the pinch-to-zoom, scrolling and other features inherent to Windows 7 as well as a custom touchscreen front end for music, notes, photos and content sharing.

The ZX4800 starts the line at $750 and, with a 20-inch 1600x900 display, is intended more as a dorm room or kitchen PC. It runs a 2.1GHz Pentium dual-core processor and uses just GMA 4500 integrated graphics for video but comes with 4GB of RAM, a 750GB hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi and a slot-load DVD burner.

Moving to the $1,400 ZX6810 gives a more performance-oriented machine with a 23-inch 1080p display, a low-energy 2.33GHz Core 2 Quad and dedicated Mobility Radeon HD 4670 video. It also brings the unique addition of a solid-state drive: a 64GB SSD speeds up the main operating system and core apps, while a 1TB drive handles the bulk of media and non-essential apps. A hybrid analog/digital TV tuner is equally new for the higher-end model.

Both PCs ship shortly after Windows 7 is available and should arrive at retail in late October or early November. A faster gaming-oriented FX6810 model will ship before the end of the year.
