Provides closer Mac integration
As promised earlier this week, Research in Motion has launched a dedicated Mac management tool, now rechristened the BlackBerry Desktop Software. The app goes beyond BlackBerry Media Sync in order to also sync contacts, calendars, tasks and notes with a BlackBerry smartphone. "Popular Mac applications" are supported, including iCal, Entourage, Address Book and others.
Users can further transfer data between BlackBerries, and create and restore backups through manual or automatic methods. App management allows titles to be selectively added or removed. The software is a free download, and requires Mac OS X 10.5.5 along with iTunes 7.2 and BlackBerry OS 4.2.
