GeeksPhone unveils One Android phone

Just-launched phone maker GeeksPhone today revealed its first device, the One. The touchscreen QWERTY slider will launch with Android and is aiming directly at the mid-range of the smartphone field with a 3.2-megapixel back camera, a VGA camera in the front, GPS and Wi-Fi. Notably, the phone was to have launched with a DVB-T tuner for digital TV but had this scrapped due to Android's design power limits; a partial compensation comes through full HSPA-based 3G.

Rather than hunt for major carrier deals, GeeksPhone is now rumored to be launching the phone largely unsubsidized, but with a relatively low price. AndroidGuys understands the One will tentatively cost 260 Euros ($378) without a contract and should be available independently as an unlocked smartphone as well as through smaller MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators) that should discount the cost.
