Acer changes names of WM smartphones

A leak indicates that Acer will rename its F1, C1, E1 and L1 smartphones when they reach production status, as these names were simply internal codenames. The F1 will now be called neoTouch, the C1 will be known as the beTouch E100, the E1 beTouch E101 and the L1 will be called beTouch E200. The neoTouch will have a 3.8-inch touchscreen with 800x480 resolution, carry a 1GHz Qualcomm CPU and run on Windows Mobile 6.5.

It will otherwise have a 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, a microSD memory card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack. It will support quad-band GSM voice networks and tri-bad HSPA data networks.

The beTouch E100 will sport a slower 528MHz CPU from Qualcomm and a smaller 3.2-inch touchscreen. Compared to the neoTouch, it will retain Windows Mobile 6.5 and lose one band of HSDPA network support. Its camera has a 2-megapixel sensor, and there is also Bluetooth 2 with EDR support.

The beTouch E101 uses the same processor, OS, touchscreen and Bluetooth 2 with EDR, as well as the 2-megapixel camera of the E100. It runs on the same quad-band GSM networks but only slower EDGE data networks.

The E200 is a slider with a numerical keypad, but also has a 3-inch touchscreen. Otherwise, there is the same CPU, OS and quad-band GSM and dual-band GSM support of the E100, along with a 3-megapixel camera and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR.

The newly named phones should start arriving at UK stores next week, and perhaps in other markets as well. US pricing remains unknown, though the neoTouch will sell for the equivalent of $470 in the UK, the E100 at $333, the E101 at $252 and the E200 at $358. All prices are unsubsidized.
