Verizon intros Win Mobile 6.5-based HTC Imagio

Verizon this morning launched a raft of new devices headlined by its first ever device to run Windows Mobile 6.5. The HTC Imagio takes advantage of the Microsoft OS' more touch-friendly interface and brings TouchFLO 3D, an improved version of HTC's in-house interface that brings contacts and other info to the top level. It's also Verizon's first smartphone-class device to support FLO TV and takes advantage of a large 3.6-inch, 800x480 touchscreen to show the live digital TV at its native resolution.

The Imagio's high-end features also involve world roaming with single-band 2,100MHz HSPA 3G and quad-band GSM/EDGE providing at least basic coverage in most areas on top of Verizon's own EVDO 3G and CDMA calling. A 5-megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi also put it on par with the Touch Diamond2, though unlike the slightly earlier model it adds a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Verizon ships the Imagio to online buyers as of October 6th, the same day as Windows Mobile 6.5 itself is slated to go live, and will ask $200 for the phone after factoring in a $100 mail-in rebate and a two-year plan. Retail customers will have to wait until October 20th.
