Uses four tone-mapping choices
Ohanaware has released HDRtist 1.0, a tool for creating high dynamic range images. Users drag and drop photos with different exposures into the software, after which the app combines them into a single image that blends the best details. HDR allows photos to display a larger range of shadow and highlight detail than a normal camera can capture.
HDRtist in particular offers four tone-mapping blending methods, based on a sliding scale. Setting a slider between four points creates a blend of two methods, permitting further flexibility. The software can also operate with one photo, simulating HDR as best as possible.
HDRtist 1.0 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. It also demands 1GB of RAM, and an Intel or PowerPC G5 processor. The software is currently available as a free download.

Limitation

HDRtist has one major limitation compared to either Photomatix or Hydra (I own & use both): it can't align images. If you don't use a tripod, you'll get awful results due to misaligned images. The other HDR products can align images taken without a tripod.
I often use the D90's bracketing feature to shoot 3 exposures quickly without a tripod, so they aren't aligned precisely enough for HDRtist.

I thought it was c***, I could not get it to load my JPGs except once it loaded one of them.
I looked for product support on their site, there is NONE that I could find.
I tried. Oh well.
