Apple website offers guide for iPhone apps

Apps previewed without using iTunes App Store

Apple has expanded its website to include a special section dedicated to many of the apps shown in TV commercials and other ads. Featured apps are organized into several different categories such as "Apps for Cooks," "Apps for the Great Outdoors," and "Apps for Music," among others. Visitors can also browse through Apple's list of Staff Picks.

The content is similar to the App Store listings provided within iTunes, although the Staff Picks are different for each location. The categories on Apple's website appear to be focused on a smaller number of specific subjects or tasks, while users must still go to the App Store to search the entire library.

    No Science!

There is no list of applications for scientific use, a major omission.
