updated 04:30 pm EDT, Thu September 24, 2009

Storage systems paired with host adapters

ATTO and LaCie have announced a new partnership to deliver enterprise-level storage systems. The collaboration pairs ATTO's ExpressSAS R380 SAS/SATA host adapter with LaCie's 12big Rack Serial, along with the Celerity FC-42ES Fibre Channel host adapter and the 12big Rack Fibre storage system. The combination of products is designed for environments requiring RAID protection or fast transfer speeds, such as editing multiple streams of uncompressed HD video.

The 12big Rack Serial provides 12 hot-swappable drive bays with 12TB of total storage space, with the ability to daisy chain multiple housings and expand the capacity out to 60TB. Data transfer speeds are claimed to reach up to 795 MB/s.

The 12big Rack Fibre also provides 12 drive bays and the ability to scale the system out to 60TB of storage. Supported RAID modes include 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and 50, while the interface supports up to four 4Gb/s Fibre Channel connections. The system is capable of running six simultaneous 4:2:2 uncompressed video streams when the drives are configured in a RAID 5 array.

LaCie's 12big Rack Serial and Rack Fibre typically carry retail prices of $8,490 and $8,990, respectively, for the 12TB variants. ATTO's R380 and FC-42ES host adapters can be purchased for respective prices of $395 and $1395. Pricing for each package, following the partnership, remains unknown.
