PSP Bluetooth stereo headset unveiled

In preparation for the launch of the PSP Go, Sony this morning launched several accessories headlined by a receiver that works beyond the company's own handheld. The Bluetooth Stereo Headset Receiver will turn any 3.5mm headphones or headset into a wireless set. While designed with the PSP Go in mind, it can pair with as many as eight devices and fits standard Bluetooth profiles: it can be used for basic calling on a cellphone but will also relay stereo audio over A2DP for devices like the iPhone or iPod touch and has a set of playback controls for those devices that support AVRCP.

It should ship first to Japan on Christmas Eve for the equivalent of $54, but Sony promises a North American release in January for a price to be set later.

PSP Go users alone also have a handful of accessories shipping to both regions that center on the Converter Cable Adapter, a circular peripheral that attaches to the frame of the Go and gives it support for legacy PSP peripherals that won't work with the new design. It arrives at the same time as the Bluetooth receiver in Japan and will cost $22 there, arriving in January for North Americans.

Other peripherals arriving at or shortly after the PSP Go's October 1st worldwide launch include carrying cases and protective film, AV and USB cables, and adapters that come with 2GB, 4GB or 8GB Memory Stick Micro cards and convert them for the system's Memory Stick Duo slot. Prices for these range from $10 for the screen film to $50 for the 8GB card and adapter combo.
