updated 04:55 pm EDT, Mon September 21, 2009

Supports development for Windows Mobile gear

TigerLogic has released Omnis Studio 5, an upgraded application development suite. Mac, Linux and Windows versions are available, and the software can create web- or enterprise-level apps which tap into a variety of database formats. These include Oracle, Sybase, DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL and MS SQL Server.

The major introduction in Studio 5 is the Omnis Mobile Client, which supports coding for Windows Mobile devices, primarily smartphones. TigerLogic has also built in new interactive interface components, extensions providing animation and transparency in third-party components, and context menus for web and mobile forms. Miscellaneous changes include method performance monitoring, and updates to the Omnis Version Control System.

The software is split into two editions. The paid Professional Edition includes all features; the Standard Edition includes a free SDK, but is limited to MySQL or PostgreSQL databases, and omits important modules like Omnis VCS. Professional costs $2,500, and requires Mac OS X 10.4.10 as well as 1GB of RAM and a DVD drive.
