Palm to unveil Eos this week?

Palm Eos may launch at Fashion Week

Palm's heavily rumored Eos smartphone could be made official as early as this week, according to a supposed contact near to the company. The unnamed tipster claims the Centro replacement's appearance will be tied to Fashion Week in New York City but doesn't provide much else to TechCrunch other than the implication that the Eos will release before the end of the year. Such a view contradicts rumors that the handset had been pushed to 2010.

Other reports had the device shipping in October, which would be the most likely timing for any September announcement not including an immediate release.

The Eos will be only the second webOS phone after the Pre and is expected to target the very entry level with a smaller 2.6-inch multi-touch display and no Wi-Fi but still receiving a 2-megapixel camera, 3G and GPS in a candybar design with a QWERTY keyboard. Most tips have the phone launching for at least AT&T at a $99 subsidized price that would now see it compete against the 8GB iPhone 3G as well as many feature-limited regular phones.
