ASUS outs 7 CULV notebooks

ASUS has begun the week by launching an entirely new line of notebooks centering on Intel's CULV processor mix. The UL series uses a relatively thin (about 1 inch) and lightweight aluminum shell that renders it much easier to carry even with the DVD burners present in most models. As with most CULV systems, they all have particularly long battery life and in some cases run for up to 12 hours on a charge.

Three 15.6-inch models top the line: the UL50A, UL50Ag and UL50Vg all support between 250GB and 500GB of storage, though their performance specs vary sharply. The UL50A has either a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo or 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo, Intel GMA 4500 graphics and up to 4GB of RAM. Moving to the UL50Ag adds options for a 1.2GHz Celeron and a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo, while the UL50Vg brings dedicated GeForce G 210M video and support for up to 8GB of memory.

At 14 inches, ASUS has both the UL80Ag and UL80V, which have the same configurations as the UL50Ag/Vg models. The UL20A and UL30A are the truest ultraportables and omit optical drives. Of the two, the UL20A is the most basic with a 12-inch screen, processors between a 1.2GHz Celeron and 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo, Intel video and drives between 160GB and 320GB. Stepping up to the UL30A brings a 13.3-inch LCD as well as the option of a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo and the full hard drive selection.

Like most ASUS releases, the company hasn't said when or at what prices any of the UL notebooks will ship, though most of its line usually reaches North America.
