Ki Pro records real-time video on Macs

AJA Video Systems has introduced a portable video-recording system for filmmakers and video professionals, Ki Pro. The device connects to almost any digital camera through SDI, HDMI or analog inputs, and records high-quality Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime files that can be edited within Apple’s Final Cut Studio software. The device integrates both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection capabilities, enabling users to control the device via a browser or their iPhone.

The device features a sleek portable design that can be mounted between a camera and tripod. Ki Pro also allows users to up-convert SD video to HD in real-time, along with converting 720p into 1080i in full 10-bit quality. All captured media can be recorded to a storage system, with built-in FireWire 800 support to enable immediate editing and file access on a Mac. The device integrates two ExpressCard34 slots and a removable HDD storage module with 250GB hard disk drive. Alternatively, users can connect an optional SSD storage module.

Ki Pro has an MSRP of $4000 and will be available from supporting retailers. AJA Video Systems will be demonstrating the Ki Pro at the 2009 IBC conference in Amsterdam from September 11th to 15th, at the RAI Convention Center hall 7, stand F-11.
