Snow Leopard pointing to tablet operating system?

S. Leopard for tablets?

Mac OS X Snow Leopard may be designed with a tablet computer in mind, a new report argues. The OS is for instance equipped with a new Expose feature, which allows users to click and hold a Dock icon to display all of an application's windows. Such a feature could be ideal for a tablet, which might not have easy key or gesture commands for triggering Expose.

A similar interface trope exists with Stacks, which pop up the contents of a Dock folder when one is clicked. File icons and an accompanying slider are large, which could make them easier targets for fingers. The most crucial new element in Snow Leopard though is said to be a revised virtual keyboard, visually similar to the one for the iPhone, but significantly bigger even than ones in previous editions of Mac OS X.

An oversized keyboard would be necessary for Apple's rumored tablet design, somewhat resembling an iPod touch but with a screen size at or nearing 10 inches. It is also expected to have a 3G broadband receiver, and some form of capable video processor like NVIDIA's Tegra. It is uncertain whether the tablet will run Mac OS X, or a more elaborate version of the iPhone OS.

    Last statement...

"It is uncertain whether the tablet will run Mac OS X, or a more elaborate version of the iPhone OS."

I think you pretty much answered that by the very nature and point of your article.

    Don't know

Don't know why they don't just do a side half keyboard for your thumbs. It's gonna be impossible to type quickly one handed on that keyboard. Makes a lot more sense to give you one that you can use with two thumbs holding the device, and just have it dynamically adjust to where your hands are... maybe I should be working in Apple's product development teams haha.

    iPhone OS

Isn't the iPhone OS a less-elaborate version of Mac OS X or conversely, isn't MacOS a "more elaborate version" of iPhone OS?

    What's unclear?

    so...

Apple added a feature (show all windows for an app - um, why would this be useful for a tablet vs. a desktop? Maybe Apple just wanted to add another way of doing this, as it is the way most users probably would expect it to occur) and then modified an already existing app (wow, it's a bigger keyboard!) and these are considered 'hints' at a tablet?

These aren't hints. Hints are when someone comes out and says "There's icons in the system package that look like an iPod touch, but its in a folder with computer icons!" or "There's an entry in the OS somewhere that says "6,0" which indicates a whole new piece of hardware!".

Those are hints. These things are "We think there's going to be a tablet. Let's see if we can find even the tiniest item that would support that theory!".

    I predict NO TABLET

I don't think technology is ready for the type of tablet that Steve Jobs envisions. If Apple releases one I think it will be a reaction to the marketplace rather than the wishes of SJ. I predict a mild success, ala MacBook Air... something that fills a niche but doesn't define a category.

    How's that taste?!

    Tablet

Isn't that really for the new iMedia tablet digitizer interface for the new iMacs coming out in October? 24" touch screen proved a bit flaky but a big iPhoneish interface was just right. Of course, people like me will balk at using the touch screen keyboard but I will like it for gestures and ability to carry media and stylus capable almost a tablet around with me when I am not in front of the computer.

    hints?

the only place on this entire page where the word "hint" or "hints" is located is in your post.
and you go on and on and on about it, something that doesn't exist, except in your mind.

    It's in 10.5 too

Uhm... this keyboard palette is in 10.5 too. And if you click the green zoom button it gets huge too. This is nothing to suggest a tablet is coming.
