iRiver Story E Book Reader

iRiver dipped into dedicated e-book readers for the first time today with word of its own device. The Story shares its aesthetics with the Amazon Kindle and has a 6-inch display with a QWERTY keyboard underneath for searches and other tasks; the system is extra-thin and has a 3.5mm headphone jack for listening to audio. A comic book-specific reader is a new addition optimized for the graphics-heavy format.

While not all of its feature set is known, it supports protected e-books in the universal EPUB format as well as PDF, raw text and Office documents in Excel, PowerPoint and Word form. An SDHC card slot acts as primary storage for as much as 32GB in books with current memory card technology.

Pre-orders start on September 16th in Korea. Pricing hasn't been fixed but should hover between $280 and $320 with an actual launch. An international release is guaranteed as iRiver has said the Story is meant for world release and is already talking to American and Russian resellers about carrying the hardware. [via MobileRead]
