Adobe to drop CS3 support with Snow Leopard

updated 10:30 am EDT, Wed August 26, 2009

No S. Leopard CS3 support

Adobe will not offer any form of support for Creative Suite 3 when it comes to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, says the company's Photoshop product manager, John Nack. None of the earlier versions of the Creative Suite have been tested with Snow Leopard, Nack comments, and the company has no plans to fix potential compatibility issues. Only the latest suite, CS4, is being officially supported.

CS4 is nevertheless said to have minor difficulties with Snow Leopard, such as problems in Drive/Version Cue, as well as Flash panels. The software is otherwise described as fully compatible. Owners of earlier editions of Creative Suite can receive general assistance through Adobe's paid support program.

Adobe recently announced that it is dropping PowerPC support from forthcoming versions of both Creative Suite and its Lightroom workflow software.

    ouch

adobe drops us again! with every damn release adobe drops previous version support so the masses have to get the latest and greatest. Luckily adobe products are so low cost that anyone in this economy can upgrade! Ridiculous really how easily they could make the products work by fixing the core libraries they use instead of just dropping support all together. pathetic

    Ridiculous!

Adobe has been s******* loyal Mac customers for years - I am tired of shelling out so much money to keep my Adobe software current. I quit giving them $$$ after uprgrading to CS2. I am still mad that they ate Macromedia / Dreamweaver. If CS2 Photoshop stops working I will find another program to handle my image needs.

    They're doing it again!

    CS3 users let's not upgrade to CS4.

    They have every right

CS4 is well worth the price whether full or upgrade. Clinging to older versions means you either don't know the software well enough to use or appreciate the new features, or your work doesn't require those features.

Sooner or later, you'll ante up with upgrades, or you won't.

Either way Adobe has the right to conduct its business the way it sees fit--just as you all do.

    Get a real!

Saying CS4 is worth the price is a very presumptuous statement. Our team has decided not to upgrade to CS4 for a variety of reasons, some stemming from these very policies Adobe practices and that are exasperated here by others. Anyone using the software extensively enough knows this to be true!

A recent history of not fixing admitted bugs, both major and minor, if only to be addressed in the next major upgrade is the type of policy that deserves to be lambasted and ridiculed. While I agree that Adobe has the right to run their business as usual, these policies likewise deserve to be called out.

There's a good reason CS4 has tanked in sales compared to its predecessors...one of which is that Adobe has worn out it's welcome to Mac users!!

    meh

I'm still using Photoshop CS2, Aperture, and GraphicConverter..

In the past I've bought PS every other version - 5, 7, CS2.. CS4 is the first time I haven't.. I may still upgrade, but am waiting to see how things run on 10.6.

    Insane!

I JUST bought CS3 for a good price on Tuesday, but it was still hundreds of dollars. Why can't I use this application with OSXSL?!?!?

    previous version support

I could understand no longer supporting CS2, but a company not supporting both the current and immediately previous version of software for a platform update of their core consumers is pure INEPTITUDE or LAZINESS! That's just sad development Adobe. Adobe is dropping the ball and also potentially keeping Mac users away from Snow Leopard, or future Mac OS upgrades. Apple may want to start developing (acquiring) a photo/image counterpart to Final Cut Pro?

    What?

S***! What a bunch of f..ers! I'm a student and I afforded to buy it one time because of a tremendous rebate when you bought a new mac and the suite. I don't care if it's not 64 bits but at least make it work! They have no reason to drop support like this for a relativelely new product and a minor system update.

What am I supposed to do now?!
