Storm 2 photos leaked

The BlackBerry Storm's unofficial but likely successor, the 9550, has been seen in a new set of photos that detail a major change in how RIM approaches the smartphone's touchscreen. The photos of the naked 9550 from Engadget reveal the piezoelectronic technology that gives the touchscreen tactile feedback, and users who press it will get a click they can feel in a particular area rather than just a sound or a generic click.

Unlike in the original Storm, however, the click will not be audible when the device is switched off, as the setup isn't entirely mechanical and doesn't depress the screen.

Despite the new photos, there is still no indication of when the 9550 is expected out, or what it will cost. Rumors have the device arriving at Canada's Telus on September 15th, while a release at Verizon is due sometime in October.

The 9550 should retain dual-mode CDMA and GSM world roaming support of the original, but add Wi-Fi. A 3.2-megapixel camer ,and the latest BlackBerry OS 5.0 are also expected.
