Quickscript goes beta

Axiotron has released the public beta version of Quickscript, a handwriting recognition application which can convert handwritten text and characters into digital type. The application recognizes 26 different languages including English, Korean, Japanese, and Arabic and can detect both printed and cursive writing. The program enables users to write in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Pages, TextEdit and other applications that accept text input.

The software includes a digital assistant feature called Kopernikus which recognizes written commands and helps users control their computer similarly to the Mac OS X Speech Recognition program. Users can add to the included dictionary, programing the application to recognize often used words and phrases.

The application is used with Axiotron's Modbook -- essentially a modified MacBook that functions like a tablet and uses a stylus to control the device. The software can also be used with similar tablet Mac forms such as those made by Wacom. The public beta can be downloaded from the Axiotron website.

What's the point of this software? Doesn't Ink already do this in MacOS X?
