Microsoft officially starts hiring for retail

MS Starts Hiring Retail

Microsoft late Thursday acknowledged that it has started hiring for its first true retail chain. The listings support those leaked earlier this month and show the company partly mirroring Apple's retail worker strategy, albeit without special names. Those manning Microsoft's Guru Bars are labeled as "technical advisors" while the equivalents to Apple's Concierges, who greet and direct customers, will be "customer service associates."

New to the jobs is the retail trainer, who Microsoft says will be asked not only to educate staff about the company's hardware and software but at times to deliver presentations to outsiders. There's no indication that staff will be trained on the specific notebooks that will go on sale.

The company remains silent on when the initial Mission Viejo, California and Scottsdale, Arizona stores will open as well as any future expansion plans, although the Windows developer has made it a point to open the stores in cities and sometimes in locations where Apple stores operate.

    X-Box

I can see people going in there mostly for the X-Box and associated software. I wouldn't be surprised if, three years from now, MS re-purposed the stores as X-Box stores, reducing Windows (or Zune) stuff to minimum, if not eliminating it completely. Then again, MS has been known for hanging onto money-losing ventures forever (WinMob, Zune, even X-Box hardware itself).

I'd just like to see what kind of moronic loser applies for those jobs. The laughing stock of society.

Not like the Mac store, where all the kids go so they can get online and check their facebook, twitter, and myspace pages...

Oh yeah. All the kids will definitely show up to play Xbox for hours. At least 100 iPhones were sold next door for the last hours.

    It's a commin'

I think this is going to backfire for MS. It will finally become obvious to Windows users just how bad the OS sucks when they see a buttload of other people lined up to complain about the simplest problems with the OS.

So far MS has been able to rely on the "divide and conquer" situation of users not being able to see each other first hand and just how prevalent users with problems are.

    Ohhhhh...

..the horror of a 16 year old looking at customers like they are total idiots wondering why they didn't defrag, run a spyware program, scan for viruses, press CTRL>ALT>DELETE, reboot, run windows update, re-install the printer drivers 200 times, edit the registry...whew... I see mass shootings of Windows gurus for making the customer look like idiot's!! Seems like this will sell more Macs for Apple than actual PC's.
