Canon intros four printers
Canon on Wednesday introduced four new printers, including two wireless photo all-in-one printers, the PIXMA MP990 and PIXMA MP640, the PIXMA iX7000 inkjet business printer with PgR technology and the SELPHY ES40 compact photo printer with a new voice guidance system. The iX7000 is meant for small businesses and allows full color pages to be printed on plain paper up to 13 by 19 inches in size. There are five ink tanks, including a clear ink tank as well as five LUCIA pigments, and Canon will provide templates on its Creative Park website for the first time, allowing users to create menus, sales offerings and other office-related signs.
The iX7000 is capable of 600x600dpi resolution when printing in black and white, or 4800x1200dpi in full color. It has auto duplex printing functionality, which lets it print on both sides of the page, a three-way paper feed and a cassette that can hold 250 pages. An Ethernet connection lets system administrators share the printer across a network. The iX7000 can create a 4 by 6 inch borderless color photo in 44 seconds.
The PIXMA MP990 and MP640 all-in-ones have the same Wi-Fi capabilities, 9600x2400dpi maximum color resolution and use Canon's ChromaLife 100+ ink system. The MP990 adds a gray ink tank for better control of shades in black and white prints. It can also scan film and slides in addition to photos or other printed documents. Navigating its functions is done via a scroll wheel, while users view a 3.8-inch LCD screen. The MP640 uses more traditional buttons and sports a smaller, 3-inch LCD.
Either has two-sided printing capabilities, and have an Auto Scan mode for one-touch scanning. Printing straight from the web is also made simple thanks to an Easy-WebPrint EX feature, with users able to select a part of a web page with an Auto Clip feature. The PIXMA MP990 will create a 4 by 6 inch color photo in some 21 seconds, with the PIXMA MP640 achieving the same in about 20 seconds.
The new SELPHY ES40 is meant for printing away from home, with a built-in memory card reader and digital camera connection. It has a voice-guidance system that instructs users what they need to do while they interface via a 3.5-inch LCD screen and scroll wheel. There are customization options with frames and clip art for pictures as well. It can only produce 4 by 6 inch prints, creating a color one in about 55 seconds, and sports a resolution of 300x300dpi. Connections include USB, the PictBridge functionality for connecting compatible digital cameras, and the option on Bluetooth v1.2.
The PIXMA iX7000 printer is priced at $400, the PIXMA MP990 and MP650 are $300 and $220, respectively, while the ES40 costs $150. All will ship sometime in September.
