Samsung 256GB SSD

Samsung has introduced its latest solid state drive (SSD), the 256GB FlashSSD, geared for gamers. The component is claimed to offer a five-fold improvement in data loading time compared to traditional hard drives, while running with lower power consumption.

The SSD utilizes a SATA interface and lists maximum sequential read rates of 220MB/s and write rates up to 200MB/s. Mean time between failure (MTBF) is rated at 1,000,000 hours, while the drive can handle operating shock up to 1,500G. Pricing information for the 256GB SSD has yet to be announced.

    Yeah!

This is a sweet idea, and SSD is indeed the way of the future, but how many gamers are willing to put a 256GB SSD in their machine?

A 256 GB SSD is going to cost over a thousand dollars, from the look of what's currently on offer. I just bought a 32 GB SSD for $150, and that was cheap.

    Not new...

In fact I have this SSD in the 13" MBP I am typing this one right NOW!!! It's been out for a long time as the Corsair and Dell SSD. They are simply this drive rebranded.

    Power

Since when do gamers care about power consumption? Or desktoppers in general for that matter?
