MacGPS Pro 8.4 update
James Associates has launched a new version of its GPS syncing and viewing software for the Mac, MacGPS Pro 8.4. The application is designed to interface between GPS receivers and the Mac, providing users with a real-time on-screen display of their current location and speed, and transferring information such as routes, waypoints and track-logs. In the latest update support has been added for the Garmin Oregon GPS receivers, along with U.S. Forest Service 24K Topo Maps.
Other version 8.4 features included a new Equidistant Conic map projection, and the ability to launch a new waypoint that contains both a given distance and direction, away from a currently existing point. The added U.S. Forest Service support enables the display of both recent trails and 4WD roads within the U.S. national forest and wilderness areas, with maps priced at $2 to $15 per-state.
The MacGPS Pro requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher and is available for purchase from the company’s online site, priced at $60 for the digital download or $70 for the CD-ROM version.
