updated 11:25 pm EDT, Thu August 6, 2009

Microsoft Office update

Microsoft has released v12.2.1 of its Office application suite for Mac, aiming to fix an issue that prevents users from opening various types of documents. The bug affected programs such as Excel Workbook, PowerPoint Presentation, Word Document, Excel Template and PowerPoint Template. The latest version removes the bug, enabling users to open regular and macro-enabled XML documents and templates.

Users experiencing the problem are alerted with a message stating the program could not open the file, and are then prompted to download the latest version of Office for Mac.

The update can be downloaded for free from the Microsoft website and weighs 23.8MB. The release is compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.9 and only affects Microsoft Office 2008 programs.
