Ustream 3GS Recorder app now uploads iPhone videos

Ustream 3GS Recorder app

Ustream has launched an updated iPhone app, 3GS Recorder, that allows users to upload videos from their handset. The company's previous app could only be used to view content from Ustream's website. With the addition of recording capabilities to the iPhone firmware v3.0, videos can now be sent to Ustream, Twitter, YouTube or Facebook.

Despite Ustream's focus on streaming live feeds, the iPhone app is restricted to sending recorded video. The limitation is likely a result of Apple's rules regarding video handling.

Along with the upload capabilities, the app also provides options to download and edit previously-recorded content. Users can even edit videos that were not captured on an iPhone.

The company is also launching a "Media Stream" service that will allow broadcasters to complement primary streams with supplementary videos that show under the main feed as thumbnails. Viewers can click on the smaller videos to watch the extra content.

Ustream 3GS Recorder can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [via TechCrunch]
