iAntiVirus released

PC Tools has released its newest security application, iAntiVirus. The software is used to protect Macs from viruses, spyware, keyloggers, and trojans intent on accessing files and personal information. The antivirus runs silently in the background, constantly monitoring the computer's system, and alerts users about attempted attacks. The application quartines detected viruses where users can view and restore items.

The program can perform carious types of scans, allowing users to reduce the length of common system scans by removing unnecessary scans. iAntiVirus requires Mac OS X 10.5 and is available for free. A version of the application with fill support and business licensing costs $30.

    what a joke

Feature: " quartines detected viruses". How does it do that considering there are ZERO viruses on OSX?

Windows viruses that can still be passed from OSX to a networked (or other) Windows PC.

    "removing unnecessary (types of) scans"

Um, by definition, if anti-virus software should pretty much have NO unnecessary types of scans...

    ummmm

This has been out there for a while. There was a review in May on MacWorld.

    Regarding this comment:
Windows viruses that can still be passed from OSX to a networked (or other) Windows PC.

This is true and a possible reason for virus scan.

However, this product only scans for mac viruses, so it isn't going to help you much there. And it only works on Intel hardware.

On the plus side. It's free! The virus database is small. And you can finally rid yourself of all those drives infected with the Autostart worm and GraphicsAccelerator trojan, although since both of those are from the last century, you'll first have to figure out how to get the drives infected with those problems mounted on your Mac...
