T-Mobile UK sets terms for unofficial iPhone deals

T-Mobile UK iPhone deal

T-Mobile UK has already begun distributing the iPhone 3G to some customers, a report says. Rumored late last month, the scheme is believed to be addressed towards people threatening to leave the carrier. Eligible subscribers must be paying over £75 a month, and only 50 T-Mobile agents are authorized to offer an iPhone, up to a maximum of three per week, per agent.

As O2 is the only official iPhone carrier in the UK, T-Mobile is said to have acquired its unlocked devices from a European distributor. It is also avoiding any advertising, and steering clear of the iPhone 3GS. The company may be concerned about raising the ire of Apple, since it is an official distributor in other countries, and could risk negotiations for future UK rights. At the same time, it is known that parent business Deutsche Telekom may be willing to sell T-Mobile UK, assuming the division does not improve its fortunes.
