Kodak's trio of 12MP cams

Kodak on Wednesday announced it will soon add three new 12-megapixel digital cameras to its range, including the Z950, the M381 and M341. All also share Kodak's Smart Capture feature, which automatically adjusts focus, flash and exposure in any setting. The Z950 sports the biggest lens with 10X optical zoom and image stabilization. Framing shots is done via a 3-inch LCD, and Kodak has reduced the time between clicking the shutter button and the actual photo capture to under a third of a second. A face detection feature is built-in, and users can edit their photos and videos on the camera itself.

The Z950 has ISO settings that top out at 3,200, albeit at a reduced 3.1-megapixel quality. It has 32MB of internal memory supplanted by a SDHC memory card slot.

The M381 is much smaller than the Z950, and its lens offers a 5X optical zoom. A 3-inch LCD is again used, while face detection can track up to five faces at the same time. Instead of image stabilization, there is a blur reduction feature. Uploading directly to YouTube or the Kodak Gallery is made easier thanks to a Share button that opens Kodak's EasyShare software. Users can again edit right on the camera. Sensitivity maxes out at ISO 1,600. The M381 can be had in black, blue or red.

The final new release from Kodak is the M341, which has a basic 3X optical zoom and 2.7-inch LCD, apart from the aforementioned specs shared with the other new releases. It can be had in silver, red, black, blue or pink.

The Z950 will be priced at $280 when it's released in August. The M381 and M341 will be out in September, priced at $180 and $150, respectively.

In the second paragraph, "supplanted," should read, "supplemented." Just saying is all.
