Ricoh GR Digital III

Ricoh on Monday improved on its flagship point-and-shoot model and rolled out the GR Digital III. Sharing the same basic body design as the GR Digital II, it still outputs 10-megapixel shots but generates less noise and also shoots up to a much wider aperture of f1.9, producing a more DSLR-like shallow depth of field as well as allowing more light in. It also brings shutter priority to supplement the existing aperture priority mode and has a 3-inch, 920,000-pixel LCD with more than three times the resolution of the camera's predecessor.

The camera continues to brandish a 28mm fixed-zoom lens and shoots up to ISO 1,600 sensitivity; owners have full control over not only aperture and shutter speeds but also exposure and metering. It can also shoot in RAW to preserve detail as well as in JPEG.

Ricoh doesn't ship the new GR Digital until the fall but puts the premium camera at a price of 530 ($873) in the UK. Its cameras don't normally reach the US but should be widely available in Europe, Japan and elsewhere. [via DPReview]

It looks looks an interesting camera.
    The Ricoh GX200 w/ 24mm - 70mm zoom and a removable viewfinder does, too.

Adorama in New York sells Ricoh's.
