Sony 400-disc B Ray Player

Sony this afternoon aggressively bolstered its Blu-ray player lineup with three high-end models. The BDP-CX960 MegaChanger is built to address a whole movie collection and manages 400 titles whether they're Blu-ray, DVD or audio CD. It also has an Ethernet port that helps auto-tag movies and music for easier searching as well as BD-Live support for newer Blu-ray releases.

The CX960 further supports 7.1-channel Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and bitstream audio. It will be relatively inexpensive for its features when it ships in the fall for $800. A closely related MegaChanger, the CX7000ES, is tailored to home automation and multi-room setups with both IR and serial ports as well as 12-bit Deep Color support for those TVs that recognize the added color depth. It ships first, appearing in August for $1,900.

Among single-disc players, the BDP-S1000ES will be a high-end counterpart to the BDP-S560 that primarily adds 14-bit image processing (also present on the MegaChangers) designed to better upscale and clean images than on the other player. The S1000ES will be Sony's second reader with 802.11n Wi-Fi and will use this both for BD-Live as well as DLNA media sharing across a local network. All the audio features of the MegaChangers will be present when this newest player ships in August for $700.
