Fujifilm Real 3D W1 and V1

As part of its camera launches today, Fujifilm provided nearly all details for its Real 3D W1 camera and its matching viewer. The W1 shoots regular 2D images at 10 megapixels but has two sensor/lens combos that produce a stereoscopic 3D image. In spite of the complexity, the camera has 3X optical zoom synced between the two items; Fujifilm has also revealed that the compact can take 3D video or uncouple the two images so that it's possible to either adjust the amount of depth or take the second shot from a slightly different viewpoint to induce a greater sense of spatial perception.

The camera also has a fairly unique 2.8-inch preview LCD that can display 3D images without the viewer needing 3D glasses and can use the dual imaging to take both telephoto and wide-angle shots at the same time or to compare different settings, such as two different color values, ISO sensitivities or image stabilization versus sheer picture quality.

Its companion viewer, the Real 3D V1, is an 8-inch frame that shows 3D images in the same glasses-free manner as the camera's display. It can tune the perceived level of 3D and will play a 3D slideshow automatically from an SD card, although it still provides manual control as well as support for 2D images. USB provides a means of getting photos to and from the frame.

Despite speculation, Fujifilm still isn't prepared to commit to a price for either the camera or the frame but says both will ship to the US in September.
