Intel to detail Nehalem mobile in September?

Intel Calpella at IDF Sept

Intel's Developer Forum in late September should mark the formal debut for its Calpella notebook platform and should serve as an opportunity to showcase its upcoming ultra-mobile technology as well, a leak indicated today. As part of an updated product roadmap, the semiconductor firm should provide detailed specs of Calpella and, presumably, the mobile Core i5 and i7 processors it will use. The overall platform is believed to ship in the fall.

Calpella includes a new mainboard chipset but primarily centers on its processors, which gain all the benefits of the desktop Nehalem architecture, including an integrated memory controller, Hyperthreading that can double the number of simultaneous tasks, and a Turbo Boost feature that overclocks one or more needed cores while shutting down the rest.

Also on tap should be more concrete information and possible working samples of Moorestown, the next-generation version of the Atom platform and the likely foundation of most future MIDs and netbooks. It uses a smaller 45 nanometer manufacturing process and builds both a newer graphics core and a memory controller into the processor to shrink the overall size and improve performance.

Early information should also show for Medfield, the successor to Moorestown due in 2011, as well as possible extra clues as to the direction of the Intel-Nokia partnership.
